Relationship Help - Marriage Advice

There are many useful things to understand about marriage advice. When it comes to making marriage work, what are some top tips? What with Oprah and Dr Phil and the hundred books on marriage at the bookstore, what should you do? What is worth paying attention to first?

Yes, there are some top keys to a good marriage. This first one is simple yet powerful. There are phases to relationships and marriage. If you just understand this one thing, it can possibly save your marriage as you get further down the road.

The first part of marriage can be called the "honeymoon phase." We all know and love this phase. We feel deeply in love. We want to spend almost all our free time together. We can't seem to stop thinking about and fantasizing about our spouse. Long walks on the beach holding hands is the type of activity that goes on in this phase.

Here is marriage guidance that you can put to use for the rest of your life together. The honeymoon phase doesn't last! It isn't meant to. Won't happen for you. Didn't happen for your parents.  This is real marriage advice.  Ain't happening for anyone you know. It last six months to a year if you are lucky, then it begins to fade.

So the deep feelings of love and connection that are the hallmark of the first few months of marriage are going to pass. You then move into the me/us phase. Here you are married, you enjoy being a couple, but you also need to separate some, focus on your own goals and interests. Relationships aren't meant to take over your life and fulfill all your dreams. You still have to do that once you get into a relationship.

However, as we move into the me/us phase, a lot of problems can occur. Feelings of "he doesn't want to spend time with my anymore" and "she is too needy" may start to replace the love and passion of the honeymoon phase.  These kind of thoughts and feelings can ruin a marriage, or at the least create some big problems.  The best marriage advice is to be aware that this might happen and take steps to avoid it.

A lot of couples mistakenly think they are falling out of love during this phase. Usually it isn't true. You are simply adjusting to a life where you are married but following your own interests and allowing your partner to follow theirs. Marriage isn't about the quantity of time to spend together, it is about living a quality life and bringing that to your marriage.

Don't give up on your marriage because you no longer feel as deep a love and connection. It is a good thing to move into the me and us stage, where you add to the quality of the marriage by working on the quality of your own life. The passion is still there, it is just often a more general contentment with the way things are between you.

We never got taught relationship skills in school.  Spending a few minutes learning more relationship intelligence can pay off with years of more love, deeper bonding and emotional connection.  Marriage advice can be simple and doesn't need to be hard to follow!
